Rolling
Hills Country Day School provides a diverse Outdoor
Experiential Education program for Grades 5 - 8
where students have a unique opportunity to expand
their learning beyond the classroom to a natural
outdoor setting.
Currently
our Fifth Grade attends Astro Camp located in the
San Bernardino Mountains in a three day, two night
physical science camp.
Sixth
Grade spends an entire week at Joshua Tree National
Park rock climbing and learning about desert
ecology.
Seventh
Grade visits Catalina Island and spends a week at
the Catalina Island Marine Institute studying the
marine habitat by diving/snorkeling daily along
with island ecology.
The
Eighth Grade travels to the Big Sur area to spend a
week camping, canoeing, kayaking, and visiting the
renowned Monterey Bay
Aquarium.
While
each trip is different, all require a strong
component of self-reliance. All must learn to get
along with fellow classmates in a 24/7 context that
tests friendships as well as leadership
capabilities. Outdoor Education trips are an
invaluable part of the RHCDS experience, and alumni
tell us that these weeks prove to be some of the
most memorable of their time at the
school.
